THIS CAN NOW BE FOUND AT THE NEW JUST PUSH PLAY HERE!

It is not easy to become the next big thing in the music business. Just take a look at American Idol. Over 100,000 people tried out for this season’s show. Some of today’s biggest stars were rejected from American Idol and went onto having extremely successful careers. Just take a look at Colbie Caillat, Glee’s Amber Riley, and Lady Antebellum’s Hillary Scott. These super talented stars never even made it past the producers to audition for the judges! So I find myself asking the question ‘What does it take to have a successful career in the music business?’ Scratch that- What does it take to have any type of career in the music business?

This is not an easy question to answer. It seems to me that all you need is a little bit of fame and the right connection in the business, and you’ll have yourself a date in the recording studio and a hit (or not so hit) single. Just take a look at Heidi Montag, Paris Hilton, and most recently Kim Kardashian. Yes, these women have worked hard to get to where they are today (for the most part), but are they musicians? In my opinion, no!

After hearing Kim Kardashian’s new single “Jam (Turn It Up)”, I thought to myself the song itself isn’t terrible, but someone else should be singing it. WHY?? Why ruin something good? I am a huge Kim Kardashian fan, don’t get me wrong. Her career included some acting, modelling, her clothing store DASH, and other successful endeavours (and I of course love catching her on E! every Sunday night). So why go ahead and jump into something that you know nothing about? Leave the singing to the professionals. Last night’s episode of Kourtney and Kim Take New York, showed Kim debating whether or not she should record this song. Should she make the attempt that could lead to possible embarrassment? After countless debating back and forth she went through with it and what resulted was a catchy song with a less than enthusiastic sounding “singer”. Again, why ruin something good?

With so much amazing talent out there how is it fair that celebrities who know nothing about being a musician get their shot in the recording studio??? Unfortunately, this is something I will never understand and something that will continue to occur.
